Oak Harbor sophomore Jennifer Fremd earned a win in three matches at the Washington state 4A wrestling championships at the Tacoma Dome last weekend.
Wildcat teammate Colton Elliot, however, dropped both his contests.
Fremd, wrestling in the 152-pound class, opened the tournament by being pinned (4:39) by No. 1 ranked and eventual champion Lilia Gudzyuk, a senior from Auburn Mountainview.
Fremd bounced back to pick up a pin (1:52) of her own against senior Amanda Hamill of Hanford.
Seventh-ranked Carter Marks, a junior from Warden who went on to finish seventh in the tournament, then defeated Fremd 5-2 to eliminate the Wildcat wrestler.
Elliot, who came in ranked eighth in the state in the 140-pound class and who finished sixth in the state last year as a 130-pounder, found less fortune in 2010.
The Oak Harbor senior started the tournament by being defeated 19-5 by fourth-ranked Dylan Ullery, a senior from Lake Washington. Ullery continued on to place sixth.
Elliot was eliminated 7-3 by senior Kris Fenton of South Kitsap.
Oak Harbor coach Mike Crebbin said, “At state everyone is tough and smallest difference can determine the match.”
