Although the Coupeville High School softball team threatened several times, it couldn’t push across any runs in a 6-0 loss at Bellevue Christian Monday, March 30.

Three times the Wolves put the leadoff hitter on base, but each time the Vikings put the brakes on any Coupeville rally attempt.

Lauren Rose led off the game with a base hit but never advanced.

In the third inning, Hope Lodell singled, and one out later, Trina McGranahan walked, but the pair were left stranded.

Tiffany Briscoe started the seventh with a walk and McGranahan singled. After an out, a walk to Jae LeVine loaded the bases, but, once again, Coupeville couldn’t come up with a clutch hit.

BC, on the other hand, pushed across a run in the first, three in the third and single runs in the fourth and sixth.

“We are still struggling with our batting but are slowly improving,” Coupeville coach Deanna Rafferty said.

Coupeville played without one of its top hitters, Hailey Hammer, who is out with an injury.

While the bats were quiet, the Wolves’ defense was solid, Rafferty said.

Second baseman LeVine snared two line drives and turned in a double play, and Monica Vidoni, filling in for Hammer at third base, played well, Rafferty said.

“Our defensive is improving each game and hopefully our offense can catch up,” Rafferty said.

Coupeville (0-4) plays South Whidbey (2-3) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 3, in Langley.
