Thousands of people on Whidbey Island were left without internet, cable and cell phone services on Sunday after an oversized truck pulled down Comcast’s fiber line on Fort Nugent Road on North Whidbey.
A Comcast spokesperson said 5,500 homes were affected by the outage and that service was restored by 3 a.m the next day.
The Oak Harbor Police Department tweeted that the outages were felt from Deception Pass to Clinton.
Social media users with other internet and phone providers said they were not affected.
A spokesperson for Whidbey Telecom said its service was not interrupted at all during the weekend.
Comcast suffered a similar outage last October after a fiber line near the Swinomish Reservation melted due to voltage from high-powered transmission lines.
Schools and businesses across Whidbey and Fidalgo islands were affected by the outage.
