I read with interest your Dec. 15 “Soundoff” by the honorable Barry Sehlin and was really pleased with his interest in living within the state real income.
I can scarcely believe it. We voted for initiative 747 and look what happened. The assessed value of my home went up 42 percent. The property tax rate is climbing 5 percent. The local governments say they are bankrupt, but no cut (reduction in the rate of the spending increase) has kicked in yet.
These last few days of the year are days most of us hunters dread. Hunting opportunities are getting fewer with each passing day. Many hunters have put up their rifles, bows and shotguns. For the few that are willing to try something different, there is a season that may just ward off the first signs of cabin fever.
Returning from an office party you laugh out loud as you recall a joke your boss told. The night is clear, the traffic slow and you’ll be pulling into the driveway in less than five minutes.
Island County Animal Control Officer Carol Barnes says she will continue to fulfill her obligations to animals and public safety, despite a recent letter from Chief Prosecutor Greg Banks claiming that his office will no longer prosecute some animal control violations.
Island County’s unemployment rate has been going up along with the state-wide rate.
