Saturday’s News-Times article “Club rejects park money” attempts to put the pool (North Whidbey Park and Recreation District) in a bad light. However, the article laid bare the weakness of the three commissioners in their continuing efforts to spend pool maintenance funds as they choose and illegally, not as benefits the pool.

As for the Boys and Girls Club, if it is a viable organization and if it serves the Oak Harbor public, and if it is well supported and managed, I do not think it needs to come to John Vanderzicht pool board like a spoiled family dog sniffing at the dinner table for scraps.

As for Commissioner Jan Sabalausky’s complaint that the users will not help her out: She should have thought of the value of the users when she repeatedly attempted to bar them from the board meetings and refused to put them on the meeting agendas. The board’s lack of management experience and good will are everywhere and always evident.

This is the ugly unspoken aura surrounding the board. First, it has lost its constituency if, indeed it ever had one. No one, not the users, not the employees, have any confidence in this board to lead and manage and follow Washington law concerning tax supported organizations. Second, the users and employees do not trust these three commissioners to act with the best interest of the pool as their vision. To the contrary, there is much rumor, talk, and belief that these three commissioners, even not considering their general incompetence, have agendas opposed to the best interests of the pool, its management and its future goals — private unspoken goals, supporting their private interests.

The magnificent NWPRD pool would indeed fail now if it were not for the dedicated efforts of the current employees and support and volunteerism of the users. It is time to recall the board.
