A portion of Penn Cove Road will close next month, as Island County road crews work to stabilize and realign the road.
Island County commissioners briefly discussed the closure during a work session earlier this month. Public Works staff informed the board that the closure spans about 1,000 feet. Thirty days are scheduled for the construction, which will relocate the road six feet away. New drainage and a new guard rail will also be installed.
The closure affects half a dozen residents living along the road. During construction the road will only be open to them.
Monitoring for sites of archaeological significance will also take place during this time, which could potentially delay the project.
The commissioners planned to discuss the road closure further during an upcoming regular meeting.
