Coupeville High School senior baseball player Cole Payne was named the Olympic League’s 1A Most Valuable Player and three teammates earned first-team honors, the conference announced this week.

In addition to the player awards, first-year head coach Marc Aparicio and his assistants were selected as Staff of the Year.

Aparicio and Payne, a catcher, led the Wolves to their first baseball league title in 25 years.

The Smith brothers, senior CJ and sophomore Hunter, were chosen first-team pitchers, and freshman Matt Hilborn was listed among the first-team infielders.

The 13-person first team included six players from Klahowya, two from Chimacum and one from Port Townsend.

Payne and CJ Smith were also first-team selections in 2015.
