L.V. and Sylvia Tozer are leaving Oak Harbor for Montana, where they have built a house and plan to spend one month there and one month here, and keep in touch with their daughters. Sylvia is giving up her 39 years of music in Oak Harbor where she was organist and choir director at Whidbey Presbyterian Church.

Mary Russell of Oak Harbor was recently honored as “Mother of the Year” during the Fil-Am Association of Oak Harbor’s annual Mother’s Day celebration at the Officer’s Club. Daughters Vika and Mara nominated their mother in a touching, affectionate letter, and Mary was nominated along with two other mothers, Sally Morgan and Josie Rellama, both of Oak Harbor.

Vika M. Russell, Ensign, USNR, daughter of Mary Russell of Oak Harbor and Dan Russell of Georgia, recently graduated from Iowa State University. Vika is a 1997 Oak Harbor High School graduate. She graduated from Iowa State with a bachelor of science in biology, with a minor in Naval science. Russell will report to Flight Navigator School in Pensacola, Fla., in August.

Navy Ensign William H. Tolson, son of Lynne and William M. B. Tolson of Oak Harbor, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his current rank. Tolson is a 1998 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Cindy and Michael Taylor and Lisa and Roger Hilardis of Bellingham were hosts to family and friends who gathered at their new home on Sunset Beach for a picnic. The girls spent their summers on the beach when their parents owned a cottage there.

Christopher L. Burlison recently received his graduation award from the Port Townsend School of Massage. To graduate, Burlison attended a 600-hour, accredited course in which he learned mass therapy, human physiology, anatomy, pathology, et. al. He plans to open an office in Oak Harbor.

Robert and Jill Wood are the proud parents of their first child, born June 23, named James Patrick. The baby weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces at birth.

Air National Guard Airman Brian J. Gliniak has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Richard and Barbara Gliniak of Oak Harbor, and he is a 2000 graduate of Oak Harbor High School.

Amber Walker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey D. Walker of Oak Harbor, has been named to the Grove City College spring 2002 Dean’s list. She is majoring in international business at Grove City College, Grove City, Pa.

Matthew Nienhuis, a senior at Northwestern College, has been named to the spring 2002 Dean’s list. He is from Oak Harbor, and is a business administration/finance major at the college.

Sarah Nienhuis, also a senior at Northwestern College, is an accounting major, and she has been named to the spring 2002 Dean’s list. To be listed, Sarah had to earn a GPA of 3.50 or higher, while carrying at least 12 credit hours. Northwestern College is in Orange City, Iowa.

Norman L. Durhan of Oak Harbor has been named to the spring honor roll at Oregon State University, in Corvallis, Ore. The senior history major earned at least a 3.5 grade point average to make the listing.
