Plans under way for Oak Harbor music festival

Although it’s still months away, the second Oak Harbor Music Festival is constantly playing in Margaret Livermore’s mind. It kicked off last year as the Oak Harbor Music and Jazz Festival, drawing more than 20 bands and a crowd estimated in the thousands.

Although it’s still months away, the second Oak Harbor Music Festival is constantly playing in Margaret Livermore’s mind.

Livermore is busy preparing for the Aug. 30-Sept. 1 festival, which will take place in downtown Oak Harbor under a new name.

It kicked off last year as the Oak Harbor Music and Jazz Festival, drawing more than 20 bands and a crowd estimated in the thousands.

This year, the name was shortened.

“We’ll have all sorts of music from rock to pop to Jazz to blues to country,” said Livermore, who is president of the festival.

Sixteen bands are lined up so far, from the Beatniks to the Chris Eger Band. A complete lineup can be viewed at www.oakharborfestival.com

The Oak Harbor Music Festival has applied for 501(3)nonprofit status, Livermore said.

A fundraiser concert will be held April 20 in Oak Harbor at the Roller Barn to help with costs for the festival. Johnny Bulldog will be performing beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 by calling 360-679-1881.

The festival will provide a $1,000 music scholarship  for an Oak Harbor High School student.

The scholarship will be named after former Oak Harbor High School music teacher Ed Bridges, who is planning to attend this year’s festival, Livermore said.

“We’re creating a community event but proceeds from this community event go to fund music scholarships for local students,” Livermore said.
