In a special meeting Friday, Port of Coupeville commissioners adjusted the terms for Greenbank Farm tenant lease negotiations.
Initially the board had said it would cover the 12.84 percent leasehold tax but later learned the port could not legally do so. The board took action Friday to rectify that mistake, authorizing Executive Director David Day to start lease negotiations with tenants that kept rates the same but added the tax.
The board also took action to extend its budget process since staff did not have financial estimates because of the delay in lease negotiations.
A hearing for the 2016 budget will be held during the November meeting. Because the November meeting falls on a holiday, that date is still to be determined, Day said. The next regular meeting for the Port of Coupeville is 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Coupeville Masonic Lodge on North Main Street.
During that meeting, the board may review candidates for the executive director position.
Day’s contract ends Dec. 31. He has confirmed he is not seeking another contract with the port.
As of Monday, Day said the port has received 17 applications for the position, one from as far away as Southern California. The window to submit and application ended Wednesday of this week.
“It certainly is my hope that the port will be able to screen the resumes that have been submitted, contact those applicants who are qualified on paper, and be able to interview them at the October meeting,” Day said in an email. “Barring that, I would suggest that another special meeting would be necessary to achieve that end.”
Also as of Monday, the port had received three applications for a farm director position for the Greenbank Farm.
