The last piece of the Pioneer Way redevelopment project is expected to begin Monday with the removal of overhead power lines and poles.

Part of the project included placing the power lines underground, which was accomplished earlier. Now the unattractive poles and overhead lines can be removed.

According to Project Manager Larry Cort, the work will be performed by Puget Sound Energy crews and is expected to take about two weeks. Removing overhead power lines takes multiple trucks, which will result in parking disruptions and traffic delays.

The first “no parking” restriction was signposted this week for Monday, Feb. 13, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. between City Beach and Dock streets. Updates on further parking disruptions will be issued daily, he said.

Strider Construction, the city’s hired project contractor, will also be downtown filling and repairing sidewalks as power poles are removed. The firm will complete other final tasks as well, ranging from landscaping and streetlight work to project clean up.
