Monroe’s offensive juggernaut swept the Oak Harbor volleyball team 3-0 Thursday in Monroe.
The Bearcats beat the Wildcats 25-18, 25-13, 25-16.
OHHS coach Kerri Molitor said, “I was really happy with the first half of the first game.” From that point on, it was all Monroe.
The Bearcats were the preseason pick to win the Wesco North and were ranked in the state’s top 10 until a recent 3-2 loss to No. 6 Edmonds-Woodway. Monroe is 5-1, and all but one of the wins was 3-0.
Molitor said, “They have an incredible offense, but our defense wasn’t on tonight. Our blocking was, well…we need to work on it.”
She added, “We are a good defensive team, but part of being a good defensive team is blocking.”
Kelsey Terrazas-Cooley once again led the team in digs with 16. Katelyn Bristow added 12 more. The offense was led by Devin Tanner with four kills and no errors; Amanda Blau also had four kills.
The match was the first league contest for both teams. Oak Harbor is now 2-5 for the year. Tuesday the Wildcats entertain Lake Stevens at 7.
