Wildcats, Panthers tie

Coming off a 1-0 loss on the road at Cascade Tuesday evening, the Oak Harbor High School soccer team ended the 2008 WesCo North season on a positive note Thursday. On Senior Night at Wildcat Memorial Stadium, Oak Harbor battled Snohomish to a 2-2 tie.

Oak Harbor took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by senior Hope Thompson at the 40-minute mark, and senior teammate Carson McKole made the score 2-0 at the 58-minute mark on another unassisted goal.

Unfortunately, Snohomish scored on a goal by Juliet Desmarias late in the contest to cut the lead in half and Courtney Johnson’s goal in the final two minutes kept the Wildcats from notching their second victory of the season.

Oak Harbor concluded the season with a record of 1-13-2.

On the road at Everett playing Cascade High School, the Oak Harbor soccer team lost another close match when Taylor Gordon scored at the 47-minute mark off an assist from Jessica Stavick to give the Bruins a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats.

Volleyball falls to Snohomish

Playoff bound Snohomish had an easy time defeating the Oak Harbor High School volleyball team in three straight games Wednesday night.

The Panthers (6-1 league, 8-2 overall) won the first game 25-19 over the Wildcats (1-6, 3-10) and then completed the sweep with 25-12, 25-14 in the final two games.

Jennifer Jansen had 10 kills for Oak Harbor and Marisa Sutherland had four blocks.

Wolves out of playoff picture

Coupeville senior Lexi Hemphill scored on a penalty kick at the 10-minute mark of Wednesday afternoon’s District 1 soccer playoff against Friday Harbor to give the Wolves an early lead, but then the Wolverine offense got into gear after that.

Senior striker Whitney Porter put three balls in the net past Coupeville goal keeper Megan Smith within a span of nine minutes and Friday Harbor ended the Wolves’ season with a 4-2 victory.

Coupeville finishes the season with a 2-15 record.
