Walks lead to Oak Harbor loss

Combine nine walks and 11 hits, and the result was an 11-1 loss to Lake Stevens in Friday WesCo North baseball action.

The game was called after six innings of play on the 10-run rule.

The Vikings scored six runs in the top of the first inning and three more in the top of the second to build an early lead.

Wildcats’ coach Jim Waller said lack of control by the Oak Harbor pitching staff hasn’t been a problem all season and thought the lack of balls being thrown in the strike zone was just a fluke.

Of the nine free passes given up, eight of the runners scored.

Bennett Richter was 2-for-3 with a double and scored Oak Harbor’s only run.

Oak Harbor is 4-7 in league games and 6-9 overall.

Three late goals win game

Heading into the final six minutes of Saturday’s WesCo North soccer game against Everett, Oak Harbor appeared on the verge of picking up its second victory of the season.

However, Malik Hajam broke the Wildcats’ hearts scoring three times to erase a 1-0 lead and give the Seagulls a 3-1 victory.

Hajam scored off a Dylan Tracy assist at the 74-minute mark to tie the score and then booting in the game winner two minutes later off another assist from Tracy

Hajam scored an insurance goal off an assist from William Miedema at the 78-minute mark.

Oak Harbor is 1-11 in league games this season.

Lakewood sweeps Wolves

Lakewood High School completed a three game Cascade Conference baseball sweep of Coupeville Friday afternoon, defeating the Wolves 8-2.

The Cougars held an 8-0 lead, until the Wolf Pack pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning..

Lakewood pitcher Marcus Harkins held the Wolves ’ batters in check giving up just two hits in seven innings on the mound.

The loss drops Coupeville’s season record to 8-10.
