Kim Mowbray smacked a double, but that was the Oak Harbor High School softball team’s only hit in Tuesday’s WesCo North game at Stanwood.
The Spartans scored 12 runs in the first inning and defeated the Wildcats 12-0 in a game called after five innings of play on the 10-run rule.
Oak Harbor is 1-3 in league games and 2-5 overall.
Stanwood pitcher Brittany Jeans silenced the Wildcats’ bats, giving up no walks and striking out nine in five innings on the mound.
Wolves shut out by Knights
The Coupeville High School soccer team failed to score and lost a 3-0 decision to King’s High School in a Tuesday Cascade Conference game.
Nick Swanson scored for King’s four minutes into the game, and the Knights maintained their 1-0 advantage through the remainder of the first half.
Jake Hibbard made the score 2-0 with a goal at the 44-minute mark and Michael Kenyon put a cap on the scoring with a goal five minutes later.
The loss drops Coupeville’s league record to 1-5 and 3-5 overall.
Monroe beats Wildcat netters
Jennifer Jansen won the first singles match in straight sets for the Oak Harbor High School tennis team in Tuesday’s matchup against Monroe.
Jansen defeated Sylvia Burkhardt 6-3, 6-1, but that would be the Wildcats’ only victory as the Bearcats picked up a 6-1 WesCo North win.
All the other Wildcats lost in straight sets, with the exception of the third doubles team of Jessica VanOort and Valerie Loders, who went three sets before being defeated my their Monroe opponents, Kathrina Mencias and Sonam Ghad.
Oak Harbor is 1-5 in league matches and Monroe is 2-4.
Coupeville softball still winless
Two hits, four errors and 14 strikeouts resulted in the Coupeville High School softball team losing a 12-0 game to Archbishop Murphy in Wednesday Cascade Conference action.
The Wildcats from Mill Creek scored in every inning, including pushing across eight big runs in the bottom of the third, resulting in the contest being called on the 10-run rule after five innings of play.
The loss was the Wolves’ fifth straight of the 2008 season.
Archbishop Murphy collected 11 hits of Coupeville losing pitcher Megan Smith.
Coupeville is 0-4 in league games and Archbishop Murphy is 3-3.
Oak Harbor drops another close one
Once again, the soccer ball didn’t bounce the right way for the Oak Harbor Wildcats.
On Wednesday, the Wildcats traveled to Marysville-Pilchuck to face the Tomahawks and came out on the short end of a 2-1 score.
Ryan Wilson, off an assist from Jordan Salcedo, scored the first goal for Marysville-Pilchuck at the 15-minute mark of the first half.
Oak Harbor’s Kevin Flavin tied the score with an unassisted goal six minutes before halftime.
Seventeen minutes into the second half of action, Seth Jones put in the game-winner with Nickolas Burdett picking up the assist.
The loss drops the Wildcats’ season record to 1-6 in WesCo North games. Marysville-Pilchuck is 6-2.
Spartans whip Wildcats
League leading Snohomish had no problem demolishing the Oak Harbor High School baseball team 13-1 in a Thursday WesCo North game.
The game was called after five innings of play on the 10-run rule.
The Wildcats (3-2, 5-4) played errorless ball, but managed just two hits off Spartan hurlers Ryan Leahy and Aaron West.
Oak Harbor coach Jim Waller said the Spartans finished second in the state last year and returned eight starting players. They are currently 9-0 on the season and ranked second in the state among Class 4A teams.
Johnny Encinas and Danny Lura had the only hits for the Wildcats.
Coupeville nipped by Cedarcrest
In another extra inning baseball game, Cedarcrest pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Coupeville 3-2 in Thursday Cascade Conference action.
The Wolves (4-6) held a 2-0 lead scoring runs in the top of the first and third innings, but Cedarcrest scored single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to tie the score.
Coupeville had eight hits in the game and was led by Kyle Wilcox who was 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
