A 1 percent property tax increase for Oak Harbor residents will be considered at a special meeting at City Hall Monday.

Beginning at 6 p.m., the city council is expected to take action on an ordinance that would formalize the increase. If passed, the tax hike would add $37,500 to city coffers in 2012, according to Finance Director Doug Merriman.

State law allows a  municipality to raise its property tax revenue intake each year without a vote of the people by a maximum of 1 percent. Merriman said the increase is already included in the second year of the city’s 2011-2012 biennial budget.
