Pull tab thievery alleged

A 33-year-old Oak Harbor woman is accused of stealing more than $3,500 worth of pull tabs while she worked as a bartender at Henderson’s Restaurant two years ago, court documents state. Prosecutors charged Kathryn Barrett in Island County Superior Court June 29 with first-degree theft. She couldn’t make it to her arraignment scheduled for July 27 because she was in another state.

A 33-year-old Oak Harbor woman is accused of stealing more than $3,500 worth of pull tabs while she worked as a bartender at Henderson’s Restaurant two years ago, court documents state.

Prosecutors charged Kathryn Barrett in Island County Superior Court June 29 with first-degree theft. She couldn’t make it to her arraignment scheduled for July 27 because she was in another state.

Darcy Axon, a special agent with the Washington State Gambling Commission, investigated the case in 2007 after the bookkeeper at the restaurant noticed that “pull tab games were coming up short,” the report states.

Barrett admitted to opening pull tabs during her work, but she said she paid for them at the end of the shift based on the weight of the pull tabs, according to Axon’s report.

Axon wrote that Barrett stole at least $3,564 worth of pull tabs between June 20, 2007 and Oct. 16, 2007.

If convicted of the charge, Barrett could face up to 90 days in jail under the standard sentencing range.
