Coupeville is getting ready for its annual Harvest Fest.
The seventh annual Whidbey Island Giant Pumpkin Contest will be held at Coupeville’s Harvest Fest Oct. 12. This year, a pumpkin pie contest has been added.
Last year was the first year for the baking contest and the prize, as judged by culinary experts, went to Irene Puhr of Coupeville.
Anyone interest edin competing needs to bring their pie to the Giant Pumpkin Contest at the Coupeville High School gym Oct. 12. Entries are due at 12:30 p.m.
Judging will be based on taste as well as appearance. After prizes are awarded, the winner will undoubtably see the winning entry disappear into the mouths of the assembled crowd.
There are other plans for Coupeville’s Harvest Fest. Oct. 12 is final day for the Farmers’ Market and the Scarecrow Corridor will be up. A tasting tour of local bed and breakfasts is Oct. 13 along with Hubbard squash painting and a new addition — squash hurling. for more information, call 678-5434.
