Prosecutors charged 29-year-old Robert McIntyre in Island County Superior Court Aug. 12 with rape of a child in the second degree. He pleaded not guilty Aug. 25.

The report by Detective Carl Seim with the Oak Harbor Police states that an Oak Harbor woman claimed her 13-year-old daughter was having an inappropriate relationship with McIntyre, who at the time was manager of a Subway restaurant.

Seim interviewed McIntyre, who admitted that he met the girl through a Web site. He said he became interested in her site because it featured sneakers and he likes sneakers.

McIntyre told the detective that the girl, whom he initially thought was older, came to the restaurant and flirted with him. But the girl’s father later showed up at Subway and told McIntyre that the girl was 13.

McIntyre promised the girl’s father that the relationship would end, the report states, but apparently it did not.

“McIntyre said it got so escalated that he believed she might be his soul mate,” Seim wrote.

At first, McIntyre told the detective he and the girl only kissed. But later, he admitted that he performed a sex act with her, the report states.

The girl claimed McIntyre tried to pressure her into having sexual intercourse, Seim wrote.

If convicted of the charge, McIntyre could face up to eight years and six months in prison under the standard sentencing range.
