“When all the holiday cheer has gone from your Christmas tree, the parents of the Oak Harbor class of 2001 will take it off your hands.For a $5 fee, you can drop off your tree at the Oak Harbor High School parking lot on either Saturday, Dec. 30 or Saturday, Jan. 6 and the group will make sure it is turned into garden mulch. Hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.The parents stepped in after hearing that the city of Oak Harbor will not be picking up and recycling Christmas trees this year due to budget cuts. In addition, starting January 1, a new law will prohibit outdoor burning in the Greater Oak Harbor area. That includes burning of Christmas trees.The group asks that all decorations be removed from the trees prior to dropping them off and advise that there are no provisions for home pickup of trees.Money raised from the tree recycling will go toward a drug-and-alcohol-free graduation night party for the 2001 class. The special, all-night party’s have been organized by parent groups for several years as a way to encourage kids to have safe and healthy celebrations following graduation. “
