Five shots out of first place with four holes to play, 13-year-old Phil Reedy of Oak Harbor put together an amazing comeback Tuesday at the Washington Junior Golf Association District One Championship at Snohomish Golf Course to win the 12-13 year-old division.

After chipping away at the lead on the holes 15-17, Reedy dropped in a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to send the match to sudden death with Reid Martin of Mukilteo.

“He had ice water in his veins,” brother Chris Reedy said.

Phil Reedy, who shot a 79 on the first day and a 76 on day two for a 155, won the match on the first playoff hole.

The win gave him an automatic berth to WJGA state championship July 27-29 in Wenatchee.

Reedy has made it to state twice before, taking 10th overall in 2002 and 5th overall in 2003.

Eric McCardle, 15, of Oak Harbor also advanced to state tying for the fifth and final spot in the boys 14-15 year-old division. He shot a 82-77–159 to nab the final state berth.

Judd Ford, 12, narrowly missed going to state in the 12-13 year-old division, finishing sixth with a 82-87—169. He is an alternate for the state meet.

Other Oak Harbor golfers competing in the district one tournament, but not qualifying for state were Josh Whitley and Matt Holmly.
