Jessica Riddle, a sophomore-to-be at Coupeville High School, finished second in the USA Beach Volleyball Juniors Western Open and qualified for the Junior Tour National Championship Aug. 22 in Fort Lauderdale.

During the club season, Riddle helped Skagit-Island Volleyball Academy, based out of Anacortes, to first-place finishes in the LaConner Volleyball Tournament and Northwest Juniors Volleyball Tournament. SIVA also placed second in the Tulip Festival Tournament.

In May Riddle tried out for the Puget Sound Region High Performance Camp in Fife and was one of 30 chosen to attend out of almost 100 of the area’s top players. At camp she was picked one of the top 15 to form a team which competed in four Canadian regional tournaments. She helped her squad compile a perfect 20-0 mark in the regional competitions.

After the club season she joined forces with SIVA teammate Shelby Kyllo of Anacortes in beach volleyball and the pair earned the runner-up spot at the Western Open, their first tournament, and earned the national tournament berth.

Last high-school season, Riddle was first-team all-Cascade Conference and named Coupeville’s top defensive player.
