Oak Harbor police are looking for witnesses to a road rage incident that turned even more serious when the suspect when ran from police, a press release from Chief Ed Green indicates.
The road rage incident occurred at 1:17 p.m. One of the vehicles involved in the incident stopped on the 700 block of East Whidbey Avenue, according to a press release from Green.
As an officer approached the car, the 28-year-old male driver jumped out and ran to the backyard of a nearby residence and then into the house, Green wrote.
The officer heard what he believed was a gunshot as he approached the house. He retreated to a safe position and notified the other officers on duty.
After the officers were in position around the house, the suspect exited the residence on his own and was taken into custody without incident. The police reported finding a gun in the backyard of the house.
Area schools and the pool building were locked down for a short while until the suspect was caught. The suspect is “a known convicted felon” and was wanted on outstanding warrants, the chief wrote.
Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the detectives at the Oak Harbor Police Department by calling 360-279-4600.
