Will someone in the State Department of Transportation please tell the drivers of Whidbey Island why it is that road construction seems to take three years on the island?

And why is it that installing traffic lights seem to be nothing short of a major road project?

And finally, why is it that installing traffic lights seems to require chopping out small sections of roadway to where the pavement drops off so sharply that it jars the car and the car’s occupants?

This last item is currently the issue I find most annoying. Coming up or down the hill south of Freeland, for at least three weeks, and for no apparent reason, the road has been chopped and left to rattle the holy crud out of our vehicles. There is no evidence of any attempt to repave there, no evidence of any intent to lessen the blow by a small temporary patch, and no earthly reason for the carving in the first place.

It’s as if the notion was the plot of some evil car mechanic looking to drum up work, or perhaps a deranged dentist looking to cash in when our fillings are knocked loose.

Enough is enough. DOT, fix this now. This is beyond ridiculous.
