One lane of traffic on Highway 20 was closed Wednesday morning as the result of a single vehicle rollover accident next to the Navy’s Outlying Field south of Coupeville.
A woman was driving a Ford F-150 pickup south on Highway 20 when she lost control of the vehicle, crossed the northbound lane and ended up upside down in the ditch north of the intersection with Pleasant Acres Lane.
Trooper Larry Provoncha said he is still investigating the accident and has to interview the driver of the truck before determining the cause of the accident.
When firefighters and paramedics arrived on scene, two good Samaritans had stopped to help the woman out of her car, said Chad Michael, battalion chief for Central Whidbey Fire and Rescue. A paramedic unit, fire engine and a basic life support vehicle were some of the rescue units that responded to the accident.
Michael said the woman was conscious and alert. Paramedics transported her to the nearby Whidbey General Hospital.
One lane of Highway 20 was closed while law enforcement investigated.
Michaels said the accident serves as a good reminder to slow down during slick conditions and low visibility. It was rainy and windy at the time of the accident.
