The newly renovated Rotary Memorial Bridge was dedicated at Windjammer Park Thursday.

Oak Harbor city leaders and Rotary clubs dedicated the newly renovated Rotary Memorial Bridge at Windjammer Park Thursday.

Leaders cut the ribbon before two Rotarians raced to the other side of the bridge between the lagoon and the harbor.

The Rotary Club of North Whidbey Sunrise and the Rotary Club of Oak Harbor raised $44,000 for the project. The city of Oak Harbor contributed almost $43,000 to the project as well. Crews began working on the bridge in April although the effort began in 2019.

The project had started out as a total replacement, but the city decided to do a partial renovation instead,

Now the bridge has brand new railings, concrete pillars and a plaque to honor prominent Rotary club members.

“Collectively, these Rotarians served our community for over 200 years,” Rotary Club of Oak Harbor President Kurt Schonberg said.
