The Karelian Folk Music Ensemble will perform at Coupeville High School Performing Arts Center Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m.

The ensemble is a professionally-trained trio of musicians from Petrozavodsk, in the Republic of Karelia, Russia. Karelia is the region along both sides of the Finnish/Russian border and the ensemble’s music is a blend of Finnish, Russian and Karelian cultures.

Besides playing accordions, guitars, mandolin, bass viol and harmonica, the three will play old folk instruments, including 5, 10 and 32-string kanteles, the bowed jouhikko, birch bark flute, birch bark trumpet and scythe blade.

Advance tickets are available Oak Harbor at the Daily Grind and Wind & Tide; in Coupeville at Coupeville Pharmacy, Videoville and Great Times Espresso and at Greenbank Farm. Ticket prices in advance are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and $12 and $6 at the door.
