Coupeville High School’s Science Olympiad team won two first-place awards at the state competition in Des Moines last month.
Sebastian Davis and Garret Compton won the Write It, Do It event April 18 at Highline Community College. During that event, one student writes directions on how to build an object and a partner has to build it.
Nick Dion and Connor McCormick took first place in Scrambler with their mechanically-built car. In that event, competitors must design, build and test a mechanical device that uses energy from a falling mass and transports an egg along a straight track. The egg must be transported as quickly as possible and stop as close as possible to a barrier without breaking.
This was Coupeville’s first trip to the state competition.
The Wolves landed the seventh and final qualifying spot at a regional competition in February in Seattle to make it to the state event.
Fifteen Coupeville students competed at state.
