The Arlington High School soccer team scored two goals in a 90-second span in the second half to cement a 3-1 win over Oak Harbor at Wildcat Memorial Stadium Monday, Sept. 28.
The two teams tangled in a scoreless tie for nearly 40 minutes before the Eagles (2-2, 5-3) scored on a 25-yard lob during stoppage time to a take 1-0 lead into the break.
With just under 16 minutes left in the match, a low goal kick by Oak Harbor was intercepted by Arlington and shot back into the net to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
A minute and a half later, Arlington finished its scoring by tipping in a ball off a corner kick.
Lydia Peplinski got Oak Harbor on the board by booting in a left-footer from 15-yards out in the 34th minute.
Arlington dominated possession during the match because it was able “to win the balls in the air,” according to Oak Harbor coach Mike Lonborg.
“We were reactive instead of proactive,” he added.
The result was few scoring opportunities for the Wildcats and a slew of shots by the Eagles.
Under constant pressure, Oak Harbor keeper Ebony Campbell “played really well,” according to Lonborg.
Oak Harbor (0-4, 2-4-1) will look for its first conference win when it travels to Marysville-Pilchuck (2-1-1, 3-4-1) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30.
