A conversation after work yesterday with friends about “Made in the USA” products, or lack of, has made me think about what, as Americans, we can do about this problem. Without going to the Web and doing a search, how many products can you think of that are produced, manufactured and assembled here in America?
We simply cannot stop buying what we need no matter where it is made. However, I would like to propose a challenge to Wal-Mart, Kmart, Sears, Home Depot and JCPenny. On the Fourth of July of this year, the entrance of each of these stores across the nation should have only quality merchandise that is completely “Made in America.” If they do not have any, get some. I don’t care if it is union made or not. I don’t think this is asking a lot from such large retail giants. This small measure of patriotism may not make a dent, but it is a place to start.
