A Military Retiree Seminar will be held here at the Nor’Wester on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; doors open at 7:30 a.m. to allow attendees time to speak with exhibitors.
The seminar is free of charge. Military retirees and their spouses from all branches of U.S. uniformed services are invited and encouraged to attend this important annual seminar, covering information about earned entitlements, eligibility and legislative changes to programs and services that affect them.
Surviving spouses are particularly encouraged to attend this seminar to find out about benefits and resources available to them after their loved ones have passed.
Speakers will include Bud Schneeweis (Capt. USCG, Retired) from Military Officers’ Association of America; a command representative of Naval Hospital Oak Harbor; Hal Picard (CMDCM Retired) from NASWI Activities Office; and Dennis Disbrow from the Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS). DFAS will have computer access to assist with pay issues.
The following information booths are scheduled: TriWest; Retiree Dental; Naval Hospital Oak Harbor Health Promotions; NASWI Morale Welfare and Recreation, American Red Cross; Fleet and Family Support Center; Veterans Community Service Organizations; American Retirees’ Association; Military Officers Association of America; Navy Mutual Aid Association and Disabled American Veterans.
The seminar will also be supporting several of the air station’s Family Readiness Groups in their fundraising efforts. FRG’s will be selling a variety of refreshments at this year’s retiree seminar. Proceeds will benefit deployment activities, family member mentorship and crisis assistance.
