Friends and family of Oak Harbor High School’s Class of 2008 will enjoy this year’s ceremony in one spacious, outdoor location.
Rather than separating the crowd and using a closed circuit TV for the overflow, there will be plenty of room at Wildcat Memorial Stadium, where this year’s ceremony is scheduled to take place Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m.
“It’s a bigger area to hold graduation and have more family and friends attend,” said Linda Otruba, senior class dean.
In past years, the ceremony was held in the packed gymnasium and extra people would have to watch from the big screen in the neighboring fieldhouse. This year, there’s plenty of room in the new Wildcat Memorial Stadium. Although outdoors, most of the seating is covered.
As a result, graduates will also be able to invite more people this year. They will be given seven tickets as opposed to the four given at previous ceremonies.
The Monday evening ceremony culminates several days of special events recognizing the senior class for their accomplishments.
This year’s seniors will wind up class Thursday, June 12, with the traditional paper toss held at 2:15 p.m. in Parker Hall. In keeping with tradition, members of the junior class will pick up the mess.
Then on Friday, June 13, the seniors will start their day with the senior breakfast, which is held in Parker Hall. Following breakfast is the Senior Assembly, and the graduation rehearsal held at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
The well-attended Senior Awards Ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. Friday evening and baccalaureate will be held Sunday, June 15, at 7 p.m. in Parker Hall.
Those unable to attend the ceremony will likely have an option to watch it live. Students associated with Wildcat TV are figuring out how to stream the ceremony live on the Internet.
If the students at Wildcat TV for some reason aren’t able to broadcast live, the ceremony will still appear on the Internet after the ceremony and on Wildcat TV.
Folks can also purchase DVDs of the graduation ceremony. Each disc costs $30 and proceeds will benefit equipment upgrades and purchases for Wildcat TV.
