A 29-year-old Port Townsend man who led police on a high-speed chase across Central Whidbey was caught with a switchblade knife, illegal drugs and child pornography in his car, according to court records.

Timothy Bohannan was charged in Island County Superior Court Dec. 10 with sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, possession of a controlled substance, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Bohannan pleaded not guilty Dec. 14.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, a deputy at the Coupeville Marshal’s Office got a call from the Port Townsend police that a passenger in a car on the Keystone ferry was wanted on a warrant.

Marshal Lenny Marlborough pulled the car over and placed the passenger in custody. But the driver, who turned out to be Bohannan, refused to get out of the car and sped away, almost striking Marlborough.

The officers sped after the car, which was moving at “excessive speeds,” and went through a couple of intersections without stopping, court papers show. The chase ended when Bohannan got into an accident at the intersection of Arnold and Monroe Landing roads.

According to the report, inside the car the police found a pipe, white powder, a switchblade, a photograph of a nude girl and the girl’s student identification showing that she is a minor.

If convicted of the sexual exploitation charge, Bohannan could face up to six years in prison.
