Sheila Bartlett, 87, born Friday, April 5, 1929, to Leslie and Mabel Fishwick in Sudbury, England, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at her home in Langley.
Growing up in London, Sheila experienced wartime England and clearly remembered the Blitz, living just 15 miles from the center of London. After attending secretarial college, she traveled extensively through Scotland, Ireland, Denmark, France and Italy. In April 1956, she sailed from Liverpool to Montreal, Canada.
After traveling across Canada, she settled in Vancouver, B.C., where she spent six years working.
In 1962, she immigrated to Seattle and enjoyed working several jobs, including as an executive assistant to Norton Clapp, chairman of the Weyerhaeuser Corporation, and as an assistant to the artistic director at the Seattle Repertory Theatre.
She moved to Whidbey Island in 1984, and worked for the City of Langley. In 1988, she met her husband, Robert Bartlett, and they enjoyed traveling extensively through Europe.
Sheila was an active member of St. Hubert Catholic Church. She loved volunteering for the church and was always ready to help in any way she could. She was also very grateful for the support her church family provided for her during her illness.
Her hobbies included cooking, theatre and watercolor painting.
Sheila is survived by her two step-daughters, Julie Bartlett and Carol Bartlett.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert Bartlett.
The Bartlett family would like to thank WhidbeyHealth Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
A memorial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Langley.
