KELLY SNODEN, an Oak Harbor resident, graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) on June 20, 2015.

The USMMA, one of five federal academies, is located in Kings Point on Long Island, New York.

Over the course of four years Snoden was a member of the sailing, volleyball and swim teams and spent over 300 days at sea on U.S. merchant ships sailing to England, Belgium, Germany, Spain and Alaska.

Snoden earned a bachelor of science degree in logistics and intermodal transportation, as well as her U.S. Coast Guard issued Third Mates Unlimited Tonnage License, and a commission in the United States Naval Reserve as an ensign.

She is currently sailing as an officer on vessels based off the west coast of the United States.
