A coating of snow Friday morning prompted canceled classes throughout Whidbey Island.
The Coupeville, Oak Harbor and South Whidbey school districts canceled school Friday morning giving students an extra day for their winter break.
Forecasts call for one to three inches of snow to blanket Whidbey Island Friday morning. People won’t have much time to enjoy the snow, however.
Temperatures are expected to rise with a high reaching around 46 degrees with the snow turning into rain, according the National Weather Service. The rain is expected to continue until Monday with highs in the 40s.
It looks like a white Christmas will avoid Whidbey Island this year. The forecast for Christmas Day calls for mostly sunny skies with a high of 44.
