The Oak Harbor High School tennis team had a rough beginning to its conference schedule as it fell 7-0 to visiting Stanwood Monday, Sept. 10.

The Oak Harbor High School tennis team had a rough beginning to its conference schedule as it fell 7-0 to visiting Stanwood Monday, Sept. 10.

Wildcat coach Horace Mells said, “Stanwood is a very good team and is my pick to finish first in the 3A North Division…This match was a good learning experience, especially for first-time varsity players.”

The Spartans are now 3-0 for the season.

Oak Harbor’s strongest performance came in second singles where David Kusnick lost 6-7(2), 6-2, 1-6.

Mells said Kusnick “was up for the challenge” and “played well, especially in the first two sets.”

Oak Harbor (1-2, 0-1) goes to Everett (1-2) at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Singles: 1, William Southard lost 0-6, 0-6; 3, Carter Saar lost 3-6, 0-6; 4, Harrison Miller lost 4-6, 3-6.

Doubles: 1, Jose Dimaculangan/Ziwei Peng lost 0-6, 0-6; 2, Casiano Atienza/Antonio Unpingco lost 0-6, 2-6; 3, Tom Dale/Jozef Mendoza lost 1-6, 4-6.
