The Board of Island County revised the speed limit to 35 mph, from 50 mph, on Engle Road, from the Coupeville town limits south to Hill Road.

The board agreed to that change in September. Tuesday’s action finalized it.

County engineer Bill Oakes pledged again, as he did in September, that he will study whether parts or all of Engle Road should be a no-passing zone.

He also said storm drains that some maintain are a menace to bicyclists will be raised the next time the road is resurfaced.

The board also changed the section of Smugglers Cove Road for which the speed limit is 40 mph, rather than 50 mph, on Smugglers Cove Road.

That section is now between a point 0.58 miles north of Spahr Road southerly to a point a half-mile south of Westcliff Drive.

It had extended southerly to a point 520 feet south of Westcliff Drive.
