First-year coach Jeff Pryor has a solid foundation on which to build this year’s Oak Harbor High School boys golf team, senior Judd Ford, a three-time state-tournament qualifier.

In 2010, Ford won the regular season Wesco 4A North medalist race, tied for first in the conference tournament and finished 19th at the state meet.

Ford will be joined by returning starter senior Greg Martin and three veterans of last year’s team: senior David Bunch and sophomores Logan Faught and Quinton Wallace.

The goal, Pryor said, is to “hopefully get a few of the kids into the playoffs.”

The six other team members are new this year, and Pryor is pleased with the leadership of Ford and Martin in helping the young players.

Pryor added, “With so many freshmen, we need to work on basic skills.”

Oak Harbor jumps right into league action with the first match Tuesday, March 22, with Glacier Peak and Shorecrest at Whidbey Golf and Country Club at 3 p.m.
