The Oak Harbor girls golf team is young, but it has an ace to lean on the next few years.
Annie Leete finished fourth in the conference finals, placed eighth in the district meet and qualified for the state tournament last year as a freshman.
Also back from last year’s regular rotation is Bre Roderos, along with additional letter winners KC Winfield, Katie Brockway and Hannah VonGrey.
Coach Andy Wesley welcomes five new golfers to the program: sophomores Cassidy Gurich and Kaitlyn Kaley and freshmen Courtney Dykes, Kitana Hernandaz and Hannah Crouse.
Wesley said the team’s youth is both its weakness and strength. The inexperience could cause some bumps during the season, but “they have a chance to make something big in girls golf at OHHS,” he said.
He added, “Our outlook for the season is to improve and be competitive in league. I’m also looking to get Annie back to state this year.”
Wesley said the Wildcats are “still learning the game of golf,” but he is “confident they will work hard and improve on their game throughout the season.”
Oak Harbor, which finished fourth in the Western Conference last year, starts the 2012 season at the Whidbey Golf and Country Club with the 14-team Whidbey Shootout Tuesday, March 20, at high noon.
