Space — something there wasn’t a lot of in the crowded Oak Harbor Plaza Cinema for the premiere showing of Star Wars “Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.”

Angelica Sada, cinema manager, said people started lining up at 4 a.m. Wednesday for the theater’s Episode III midnight showing.

Oak Harbor resident Allee Lambert, 15, who was sitting in line at 10 a.m. Wednesday, said this was the first Star Wars movie she had lined up for, and she and a friend had been waiting since 6 a.m. They had slept, played cards and listened to the movie’s soundtrack from another friend’s car while they waited.

Lambert was nine years old when “Episode I: The Phantom Menace” came to theaters and didn’t really remember it that well. But she said she became more impressed with the series when “Episode II: Attack of the Clones” hit the sliver screen because by that time she was old enough to appreciate the storyline and Anakin Skywalker’s looks.

“I hope this one is the best one yet,” she said.

Another group of local teenagers said they had told their teachers the day before that they were skipping school, and one teen said her mom had called and said her daughter was taking a “family day.”

“Were doing this for them,” said 16-year-old Michael Testa, with mock nobility.

He said he and two friends had stood in line since 7:45 a.m to buy tickets for themselves and for family members who were working or in school.

Sada said as the day progressed, the line grew. For most the day people sat around on lawn chairs or wrapped up in blankets; snacked and entertained themselves. At dusk, those in line started to get more excited and active, and several groups of people pulled out their light sabers and started conducting mini-wars.

At 11 p.m., Sada opened the cinema doors for ticket sales.

“There was cheering when we let people in,” she said. “I sold out 15 minutes after I opened.”

Sada said approximately 195 people watched the first showing of the movie.

“We just watched it before we let these guys in,” she said. “It’s the best one yet.”

She said the fight sequences are well done, but would not go into detail.

“I don’t want to give anything away.” she said.

Inside the theater, people called out for costumed attendees to stand up and cheered as they did so. Jedi knights, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Yoda and others characters from the Star Wars films appeared throughout the theater.

In a seat close to the center aisle sat Allee Lambert, who 13 hours from first arriving to the theater was finally about to complete the first Star Wars trilogy.

“It was so worth it, but I am so tired right now,” Lambert said.
