After nearly two days without ferry service at Keystone, the Steilacoom II returned to service Friday morning with the 6:30 a.m. sailing from Port Townsend.

A problem to the vessel’s generator prompted ferry officials to cancel sailings starting Wednesday afternoon. Work crews from the ferry system’s Eagle Harbor maintenance facility traveled to Port Townsend to repair the damaged equipment.

In the meantime, traffic to and from the Olympic Peninsula was diverted to the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry run and then down to the Edmonds/Kingston run. Now that it’s back in service, the boat leaves Keystone on Whidbey Island every 90 minutes with the first sailing at 7:15 a.m. and the last one at 9:15 p.m. If you have ferry questions, call 511.
