A recent photo taken by Margaret Nichols of North Whidbey reveals that Whidbey Island’s lone elk, which she calls “Walter,” is doing just fine in his third year on the island. The theory goes that the elk swam across Skagit Bay three years ago and has taken up residence the Strawberry Point area. Admirers also refer to him as “Bruiser” and by other names. Hunting for elk is not allowed on Whidbey Island.
