Storm: Snow doesn’t stop dialysis

At a time of extreme need Richard and Christine Epstein checked on and rescued Jerry and Charlis Dunham from being trapped by snow and ice and a fallen tree when Jerry was in vital need of kidney dialysis last month. Jerry is dependent on a wheelchair for mobility and has been totally blind for many years. He must have dialysis three times a week for four hours and it did not look like we could get out. But Richard and his crew, with fancy four-wheel drive equipment and skill, accomplished it easily.

We also want people to know about the outstanding accommodations for the disabled that we were able to find in Oak Harbor. The management of the Best Western Harbor Plaza Hotel, 33175 SR 20, John and Zane Platt, have given careful attention to providing and maintaining excellent disability accommodations. Beyond that, the Platts are extraordinarily dedicated to assisting their guests. Continental breakfast is bountiful and they really care for the welfare of those in need. They go the extra mile to help. Anyone in a wheelchair traveling through Oak Harbor will be fortunate to stay with them.
