Unable to generate much of an offensive attack, the Coupeville High School volleyball team dropped a pair of home matches last week, losing a 3-0 to Cedarcrest Tuesday, Oct. 2, and 3-2 to Lakewood Thursday, Oct. 4.

Cedarcrest, which is in second place in the Cascade Conference with a 7-1 record, won 25-9, 25-16, 25-11.

Coupeville coach Toni Crebbin said her team had trouble producing an offensive punch and “just couldn’t seem to put it all together.”

“We are doing what we are focusing on in practice, but we just don’t have any offense,” Crebbin said.

The Wolves did, however, have some success when operating quick sets, Crebbin added.

Against Lakewood, the Wolves got a spark from the return of captain Bessie Walstad, but it wasn’t enough as the Wolves lost 18-25, 25-22, 14-25, 23-25.

Walstad, the Wolves’ leading player, returned after a two-week injury and saw spot duty, recording five kills in only two games.

Crebbin said it was “nice to have her back in there.”

Bree Messner had “a nice offensive night,” according to Crebbin, recording 11 kills, six aces and 24 digs.

Sydney Aparicio had 19 digs and Megan Oakes 21 assists.

Coupeville (1-8, 2-8) met rival South Whidbey on Tuesday and now takes on Sultan (1-7, 2-7) at home at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.
