Suspicious man tried to kidnap girls

Police seek public’s help

Oak Harbor Police, Navy security and Naval Criminal Investigative Service are looking for information about a suspicious man who tried to stop three elementary school girls while they were walking home from school Tuesday.

The girls were walking home to Saratoga Heights from Olympic View Elementary School at about 3:45 p.m. A man in a orange-colored pickup drove up next to them and motioned for them to come over to him, according to a police report.

The girls ignored the man and continued walking. One girl reported she turned around and saw the man outside of his truck, possibly taking a photograph of them. The man then drove off.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall, skinny, with a faint mustache and a “pitched” voice. He was wearing oval sunglasses, a blue “do rag” on his head, a stud cross earring, a black knee-length jacket with orange stripes on the sleeve and black shoes.

The man’s vehicle was an orange-colored, older model pickup without a canopy. It had gray and silver-colored scrapes on the side and a front hub cap didn’t match the others. On the upper front passenger side of the windshield was a sticker with numbers on it.
