Coming off a loss to Anacortes Monday and a three-point victory over Marysville-Pilchuck on Tuesday, Thursday’s swim meet against Jackson at Vanderzicht Pool was a matchup between the top two WesCo League teams.
At the conclusion, Jackson left no doubt why it is the top-ranked team and will probably win the league championship, soundly defeating the Lady Wildcats 118-58.
“We defeated Marysville 94-91 on Tuesday and it was a really exciting time for the girls,†Oak Harbor coach Erika Miller said. “We haven’t beat Marysville in years.â€
Miller said Jackson has a really strong team and the meet didn’t go Oak Harbor’s way.
“Our girls swam well and I thought they did the best they could. I’m proud of them,†she said.
Senior Julia Marriott was the only winner in individual events for Oak Harbor, capturing the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2:17.83 and winning the 100-meter butterfly in a 1:10.65 clocking.
She also teamed with KeriAnne Wright, Kim Klieman and Carolyn Vasquez to win the 200-meter freestyle relay in a time of 2:01.09.
Vasquez was second in the 50-meter freestyle and Wright took second in the 100-meter butterfly.
Oak Harbor travels to Cascade on Thursday and hosts Lake Stevens for a 3 p.m. meet Oct. 5.
