“Dina Blade and Barrie Vye will appear in concert in the Coupeville Town Park, Sunday, July 30, at 2 p.m., the third in the Summer in the Park series sponsored by Concerts on the Cove. Blade sings a collection of American popular songs offering quirky insights into one of life’s most sentimental, mysterious and bewildering topics — love. She is accompanied by pianist and Big Band veteran Barrie Vye to present a program of mega-hits from the 1930s and ’40s swing era delivered in cabaret style. Songs in their repertoire include jazz arrangements of hits ranging from I’ll Be Seeing You, to In the Mood. Vye has been a fan of the oldies since his teen years in Seattle. Blade, who now lives in Seattle, grew up in Philadelphia. She didn’t encounter swing music until her late 20s. When she heard “Sentimental Journey,” during a folk festival her life changed. A guitarist and folk singer at the time, she changed her style to cabaret and her songs to the swing era. The two have performed together for six years. Although separated in age by three decades, their passion for swing unites them. The next two concerts in the series are by the An-O-Chords, Aug. 6, and the Shifty Sailors and the Skagit Community Band wind up the season on Aug. 27.Individual concert tickets at the gate are $5. Children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult. For information call 678-4684.”
