The Port of Coupeville is making repairs to the fuel pier located at the end of the Coupeville Wharf after a visit from a well-known tall ship last summer.
The Hawaiian Chieftain, which visits Penn Cove annually, inflicted minor damage to the fuel pier in early August when it stayed through the Coupeville Arts and Crafts Festival.
Port of Coupeville executive director Jim Patton said one of the deckhands forgot to untie a mooring line and the fuel pier was damaged when the vessel sailed away. The port’s handyman was able to repair the damage.
Although he doesn’t yet have a dollar amount for the repairs, he said he’s contacted the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport, and they apologized over the matter and are eager the resolve the situation.
The Historical Seaport operates the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain.
