Despite losing Thursday’s WesCo North swim meet to Snohomish, Oak Harbor coach Erika Miller said there were some good times recorded and state qualifying times bettered.
The strong Panthers squad, defeated only once in league meets this season, won 10 of the 14 events to beat the Wildcats 123-71.
Oak Harbor lost just its second league dual meet of the season and finishes with a 4-2 WesCo North record.
Thursday’s meet was the final dual meet of the year for Oak Harbor prior to the North Sectionals, scheduled to begin Thursday, Feb. 7, at Marysville-Pilchuck.
John Hu, Price Hu and Tyler Schell were the only Oak Harbor competitors to win individual events.
John Hu picked up the first victory, winning the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:13.56.
“I thought I swam pretty good,” he said. “I beat the guy from Snohomish in the lane next to me, Erik Pedack, and we are sort of long-time rivals. We’ve swam against each other many times, and it’s always nice to win.”
Price Hu won the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:03.01 and Tyler Schell was the victor in the 400 freestyle with a clocking of 4:28.47.
“I didn’t get a state qualifying time today, but I’m hoping to get one at the district,” Hu said. “If not, I hope to be able to get a wild card.”
Senior Daniel Saiku turned in one of his best performances of the year, scoring 115.70 points to finish second in the diving competition.
“Snohomish has a strong team, but we had some good races today. They all did a good job.” Miller said. “I think John Hu bettered his state qualifying times, but I’m going to have to check for sure.”
